Thibaut Courtois joins Thorgan Hazard in Belgian award sweep

Chelsea can now officially say they own both the best Belgian domestic player and the best Belgian abroad after Thorgan Hazard and Thibaut Courtois swept the "Best Player" awards in Belgium.

Angel Martinez

As Steve told you, Thorgan Hazard was named the Jupiler League Golden Boot this evening. The current Zulte Waregem wasn't the only Chelsea player to win an award, though. Nor was he the only Chelsea loanee to win one. The Blues' current top young prospect, Thibaut Courtois, won the award for the best Belgian player playing abroad. Here's Kristoff Terreur's Tweet:

That Courtois could manage to win this award ahead of the likes of Eden Hazard and Vincent Kompany, both former winners, says a lot about how highly he's rated within the game. It's not exactly a surprise to me that he's won the award, since he's risen to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the tender age of 21, and has a very good chance of unseating the Chelsea legend who is Petr Cech. Congratulations, Thibaut, you deserved it!
