Chalobah returns from Nottingham Forest

Ben Hoskins

Nemanja Matic isn't the only midfielder Chelsea are welcoming back to the fold today. Nottingham Forest have confirmed that 19-year-old Nathaniel Chalobah is returning to Stamford Bridge after half a season on loan at the Championship club -- and as far as we're concerned it's not a moment too soon.

After a hugely impressive 2012/13 season with Watford and a pre-season which saw him hold his own in Chelsea's midfield, it had looked as though the stage was set for Chalobah to have a monster year. Unfortunately, he barely featured with Forest during his just-terminated loan spell, scoring two goals in 12 appearances. He's capable of much more, and presumably Chelsea will be loaning him out again to a club that will use him properly.

We don't really have a good idea of where Chalobah will end up for the next few months -- Middlesbrough seem a good a candidate as any considering Jose Mourinho's relationship with Aitor Karanka, and there's been interest from Wigan and Leeds -- but hopefully the Blues will work to make this spell more successful than the last. The manager had previously said that Chalobah was only one more year away from contributing to the first team, so it's important to make the most of the rest of the season.

In the meantime, welcome back to Chelsea, Nathaniel.
