Mourinho on the future: "I don’t want to have a next move"

Michael Regan

Although the Evening Standard is rarely my go-to source for football news, I have to say that Simon Johnson's exclusive interview of Jose Mourinho is little shy of amazing. You should read the whole thing, but in case you don't, here's the most compelling quote:

I’m not here thinking about my next move because I don’t want to have a next move. I will have a next move if and when Chelsea decides it’s time for that. I’m not chasing new experiences, trying to find where I like it more, where I can make new things for my career — no. It’s a completely different perspective.

Yes, that's Jose Mourinho, notorious mercenary, telling the world that he'll be at Chelsea for as long as he's wanted. Granted, notoriously trigger-happy Roman Abramovich remains in charge of the club, and we know what happened last time the two fell out, but there's something serene about Mourinho this time around.

How brilliant is it to know that one of the world's most sought-after managers is part of the club fabric? Manchester United fans might claim that Mourinho desperately wanted to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson -- what they're missing is that he wanted to do that for Chelsea, not for them.
