Real Sociedad have apparently ended their quest to secure Josh McEachran on loan as a temporary replacement for Asier Illarramendi. According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, they're now after Queens Park Rangers midfielder Estaban Granero*. It's not clear what happened to the McEachran deal, if it was ever really serious in the first place, but as @chelseayouth points out, the language seems to imply that it wasn't for a lack of La Real trying.
*Typing that still makes me laugh.
So that's kind of a shame. If Chelsea didn't want to send Josh to La Liga, I'm not sure why. Spain would have been a fascinating place to watch McEachran work -- he tends to do better around players with top-level technical ability, and although he wouldn't have to work on his physicality to succeed there like he would in England, the positional aspects of midfield play would have been a useful addition to his game. But yeah, now it sounds like it's not happening -- and so the loan search continues.
