Chelsea name their 23-man squad for the UEFA Super Cup

The composition of the squad probably won't surprise too many ahead of the clash with Bayern Munich.

Chelsea's next game will be the UEFA Super Cup, which will be a rematch of the 2012 UEFA Champions League final*. Jose Mourinho has already submitted the Blues' 23-man squad for that contest, and UEFA published that squad today:

*We won that game

Goalkeepers: Petr Cech, Mark Schwarzer, Jamal Blackman

Defenders: Cesar Azpilicueta, Branislav Ivanovic, Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, John Terry, David Luiz

Midfielders: Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Ramires, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Marco van Ginkel, John Obi Mikel

Forwards: Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku, Andre Schurrle, Juan Mata, Demba Ba

There are several things worth noting in this squad, most notably the omission of Victor Moses. The Nigerian looks likely to be the odd man out with the addition of Willian to the squad, and sure enough, he won't be taking part on Friday.

Willian was granted his work permit this morning, but was not a Chelsea player in time to be named to the squad for this match. I wouldn't read anything into this particular item, as he'll almost certainly be a regular with the Blues. David Luiz is now healthy enough to be named to the traveling squad, although I'd be surprised if he's match fit and ends up in the starting eleven.

Also of note is the omission of Henrique Hilario for youngster Jamal Blackman. Hilario seems the obvious choice to lose his place in the squad if we sign another striker, as Jamal Blackman counts as both club trained and homegrown for roster construction purposes.
