Mourinho gives an update on David Luiz's status

Laurence Griffiths

Lost amidst the Willian madness this morning (which is a nice reminder that sometimes transfers make no sense at all) was a comment from Jose Mourinho about the current status of one David Luiz, defender. The Brazilian's been struggling with a nagging injury that's kept him out of action for much of preseason, and, well, he's starting to show signs of recovery.

David Luiz is improving. He is training not yet with the group but training hard. If he is not available on Monday then we think he can be for the Bayern Munich game.

Obviously we'd rather he be fit for Manchester United rather than for a friendly in which the losers are compensated for showing up with a giant pot of money, but this is good news. I think this is the first time that Mourinho's actually put an estimated return date for the defender, and even if he misses the most important match of the early season he'll be back sooner rather than later.
