Monday Night Football: Manchester City vs. Newcastle United / Open Thread

Alex Livesey

The first weekend of the Premier League's new season comes to a close tonight as the two remaining idle teams swing into action. Last year's second place Manchester City, having spend close to £100m on shiny new signings (mmmm ... Jovetic) hosts Newcastle United and their manager for life Alan Pardew. And by life I mean mid-winter, by when he's sure to get the sack.

Of the six "City" teams in the Premiership, four have already lost this weekend. And they say that the City moniker is redundant and is of lousy identity!

Kickoff is at the top of the hours on NBCSN (USA) and Sky Sports 1 (UK). Fernandinho, who has recently revealed that there was plenty of Chelsea interest in him this summer, is set to start for the hosts.

Discuss.
