Call off the Victor Moses search party, Mourinho meant not knowing in terms of fitness

So there was a bit of a panic earlier when quotes from José Mourinho made it seem like he (and Chelsea) had no idea where Victor Moses had disappeared to following the Nigerian winger's sojourn to South Africa on international duty for a charity match in honor of Nelson Mandela and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

José is a wordsmithing mastermind so it's not necessarily a suprise that his words were misinterpreted at first glance.  Here's what he said, as run by friend of the blog Dan Levene in the Fulham & Hammersmith Chronicle:

"Luiz is injured and he couldn’t play for Brazil so he’s out. Moses, I don’t know where he is"

"I don’t select him from Sunday. Probably I don’t select Azpilicueta because he is the same. He went from the States to Ecuador to be on the bench and then back to London."

Easy to see where the apparent confusion comes from and it certainly didn't help that the headline carrying that story ran with the "Moses missing" - as in physically missing - interpretation.

So where's Wallace Moses?  Well, he's probably resting and kicking his feet up in his London digs.

Here's Chelsea's official version of the quotes:

"David Luiz is injured. He couldn't play for Brazil so is out."

"Moses I don't know, I saw him in the airport when we landed from the US, he played in South Africa, I don't know. I don't select him for Sunday. He came from United States, played in South Africa and arrived back on Friday."

"Probably I won't select [Cesar] Azpilicueta, because he is the same. From Ecuador to be on the bench back to London. This type of decision is based on national team matches but the only injury is David, the others will be an option."

-José Mourinho; source: Chelsea FC

Call off the search party!  Moses is alive and well.  He may even be on the bench come Sunday.

As far as not reporting and missing Friday practice, this image from the Associated Press (h/t: papakojo), dated Friday, August 16, shows Moses stretching at Cobham.  Based on that he at least showed up "for work," even if he was a little tired and jet-lagged from his travels.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
