There are reports circulating this morning that Nathan Ake will be heading the Vitesse Arnhem on loan, and that the player would take up a midfield role with the Eredivisie club. I don't know a thing about how credible this outlet is, but a quick glance through some of the author's other work doesn't seem to be showing a trend towards writing ridiculous stories.
There is some other news that lends some credibility to this report, as Ake is one of a trio of Dutch players to pull out of U19 duty today. It's unlikely that Ake would have skipped out on the UEFA championships in order to log a few minutes in Chelsea's preseason friendlies, but Vitesse have far more important Europa League qualifying coming up. It would certainly make sense for both the player and the club to want to begin working together immediately, especially if they want to make it into the group stage of Europe's second tier competition.
I have no idea whether or not this morning's news is real, or simply somebody reading a bunch of obvious signs of an impending move and trying to get a jump on the competition. Even if it's a case of the latter, the destination just makes so much sense for all of the parties involved that I'd imagine it's almost certainly going to happen. Stay tuned...
