WBA reject Chelsea's compensation offer for Isaiah Brown; ready to decide matters by tribunal

Alex Grimm

The highly prized 16-year-old prospect has already been training at Cobham; all the while Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion were trying to hash out proper compensation. And it seems that Albion are not happy with our latest offer.

"We are disappointed by Chelsea’s offer."

"We have invested a lot of time and money in Isaiah’s development as a player and - as one of our most exciting Academy products in recent years - we had hoped to bring him through into our first team."

-Richard Garlick, WBA Technical Director; source: WBA Official

I haven't heard any specifics as to what our offer may have been, but these sour grapes sure do taste like garlic!

"But Chelsea have forced our hands and we are more than prepared for the matter to be decided by a tribunal if needs be."

-Richard Garlick, WBA Technical Director; source: WBA Official

I don't think Chelsea would waste too much time in negotiating this rejected bid and might just take the easy option in letting the matter go to a tribunal. It's what we did with Daniel Sturridge as well, for example, and that seem to work out just fine.

While Albion and their technical director are understandably upset at losing Brown to Chelsea, they do make a decent point in their parting shot:

" ... it makes you question why these young players are joining bigger clubs when they are likely to gain more first-team opportunities in the Barclays Premier League at clubs similar to us."

-Richard Garlick, WBA Technical Director; source: WBA Official

Welcome to the huge pond, Mr. Big Fish Izzy Brown.
