Patrick van Aanholt had an excellent season on loan last year in the Eredivisie, and his success had many of us eagerly anticipating his return to Chelsea to fight for a place in the squad. According to van Aanholt, that return might have to wait for a year:
Voor de Vitesse fans de kans is groot dat ik nog een jaartje blijf!
— Patrick van aanholt (@PvanAanholt_) July 5, 2013
In English:
RT @PvanAanholt_: For the Vitesse fans there is a good chance that I stay another year!

Van Aanholt was probably the best leftback in the Eredivisie last season, so it's a bit surprising that he's talking about returning for another spell on loan. I'd prefer to see the club and player push for a more aggressive loan, so that we could really get a look at what we have in the young Dutchman. If we're going to play it a bit safer though, and assure he sees extended minutes, Vitesse Arnhem is a fine destination for the player.
With Gael Kakuta already confirmed to be returning to the Eredivise side and van Aanholt potentially doing the same, it appears Vitesse will still have the talent to push for a Champions League place even without Marco van Ginkel. It will be interesting to see what other Chelsea players end up joining the pair in the Netherlands, as Vitesse have been a fine partner for the Blues.
