It is now officially official, Marco van Ginkel is Chelsea' s new number ... erm ... I guess we'll find that out later. For now, it's been confirmed that the 20-year-old has passed his medical and has put pen to paper on his five-year Chelsea contract.

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Marco van Ginkel today (Friday) completed his transfer from Vitesse Arnhem.

I haven't heard any rumors of wages but I cannot imagine they'd be anywhere near outrageous.

In a short sound-byte (quote-byte?), van Ginkel spoke of just how happy he is to be here - and just in time for the start of training camp, too!

"I'm very happy to be here at such a nice club with great players. I am really happy, the stadium is good and the training ground is fantastic."

"I know about all the players and will meet them on Monday. I expect a lot, I've watched matches and it's really nice to be here."

Very happy; really happy; really nice. And he expects a lot. Big words from the young man. Should we expect a lot back?

In any case, van Ginkel is now officially the second major signing of the new Mourinho era. Let's hope he works out better than the second major signing of the first Mourinho era, who, incidentally, also came from the Eredivisie...

Oh, and in case you want to know how to pronounce his name, here he is to help you out:
