Chelsea players did pretty well for themselves in the Confederations Cup. There were five Blues between the two teams that contested the final, and two of them won it (I'm sure Oscar and David Luiz's collective joy was tempered by the knowledge that Juan Mata was sad, though). And it turns out they have two players named to the official 'best of' squad, too: David Luiz and Fernando Torres.
David Luiz was genuinely excellent, and he saved his best display for last in the final against Spain. That goalline clearance was majestic, and he did a superb job cutting out whatever came his way while distributing effectively from the back. And he did this all with a broken nose.
As for Torres, the four goals against Tahiti meant he was the winner of the Golden Boot for the tournament and there was no way they couldn't have the Golden Boot winner in there. That's not to say he had a particularly bad time of things -- there were ups and downs -- but it's difficult to see him making the team if not for his four-goal haul against the minnows.
Still congratulations to both players. Now come home. We've got a new season to prepare for.
