Under-21 star signs new deal

Chelsea FC have announced that midfielder Lewis Baker, 18, has signed a new contract with the club. According to the official site, Baker has signed a three-year deal that will keep him with the Blues through the 2015/16 season. It's a fitting reward after a great year for the youngster, who was named the Player of the Tournament for his performances in the NextGen Series tournament, captaining the team to a spot in the final, where they lost to Aston Villa.

Baker's a rare talent -- creative, two-footed and with the ability to play in the centre or out wide as circumstances demand. Alongside the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah (and those are just the midfielders), Baker's one of the bright lights of our academy, and I'm very happy that we've secured him to a longer-term deal. He's got every chance of making an impact with the first team in a couple of years -- now there's just some seasoning to do.
