Sport claim Khedira on market for €18m; Chelsea interested

Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno

The best part of the summer transfer window is reporting on the knock-on effects of transfer rumours that might not even be legitimate. Today it's Sport's turn. They're reporting that not only do Real Madrid have an interest in Sevilla defender Geoffrey Kondogbia but that they're close to signing him and might be willing to sell one of their midfielders to accommodate him.

Luka Modric isn't going anywhere. Xabi Alonso's injured. But Sami Khedira? Los Blancos would be willing to part with him for a mere €18 million, with Chelsea named as an interested party, probably thanks to the Jose Mourinho link. Sport claim Khedira is 'just not liked' by Carlo Ancelotti, which is weird because Carlo usually has impeccable taste.

Anyway, I think this is probably nonsense -- even Sport are dressing it up in speculative terms -- because it's difficult to see Real Madrid being crazy enough to make their team worse for no reason. But one of the great parts about anything Real Madrid is that them going crazy is at least slightly plausible. If that turns into a Sami Khedira for me, all the better.
