We've got more loan news as Chelsea continue to secure decent placements for their youngsters. This time it's Sam Walker heading out on a six-month loan to Colchester United. That might sound familiar to those of you who pay attention to the loanees, which is because Walker spent the second half of last season on loan at Colchester, as did Billy Clifford.
There's another young Blue on the U's -- centre back Daniel Pappoe is also at Colchester until January. I'm not sure so this is the level Walker should be playing at, though. Colchester are a bottom-of-the-pack League One side, and Walker seemed far too good for them last year. That said, I'm not hugely concerned about his development being as efficient as possible. Thibaut Courtois is clearly Chelsea's goalkeeper of the future, and if Walker sticks with us, it'll probably be as a backup. Non-elite goalkeepers don't need to be rushed into anything.
Regardless of any questions as to whether he could be playing at a higher level, at least we know that Walker will get playing time at Colchester. Good luck to him (and to Pappoe) in their time there!
