Edinson Cavani v Italy/ Brazil v Spain Open Thread

Laurence Griffiths

Get yourselves excited folks! It's the meaningless third-place match and final of the largely-meaningless warm-up tournament for next year's World Cup. It's also your last chance to see purported Chelsea target Edinson Cavani for a while, so make sure you get your opinions nice and set after his match before enjoying the final later on!

Seriously, though, it's a match neither side will probably be too worried about. That traditionally means either an soul-crushing disaster of a match or a barnstorming free-for-all. Given their prior form in this tournament, Uruguay and Italy should tend towards the fun side of that spectrum. Let's be like these teams and not take this too seriously. After all, having some fun is what the Confederations Cup is all about. Plus, every minute we spend watching the first match is one fewer minute we must wait for the real match later on!

Yes, the real match in the tournament today. Brazil v. Spain. It's practically Chelsea v. Chelsea, with David Luiz and Oscar taking on a team featuring Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, and Cesar Azpilicueta...all probably on the bench. Knowing Vicente del Bosque, he won't use any of them from the start tonight, but hopefully one or two of them find their way onto the pitch at some point.

It's the end of the Confederations Cup today, for better or worse, so enjoy it while you can! Also, DISCUSS!
