We've been hearing Chelsea connected to Vitesse midfielder Marco Van Ginkel for the better part of the last month, and today the player's agent has confirmed that talks with the London club have gotten 'very serious'. De Gelderlander had a brief interview with him, and here's some of the highlights:
John Smith, the manager of Vitesse midfielder, confirms that the interest of the English club in the 20-year Scherpenzeler now is 'very serious'. Chances are that the youth international this summer makes the transition to London, but a foregone conclusion Jansen dare not mention. "There are big clubs interested."
Jansen was in London for an interview and Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho had telephone contact with Van Ginkel. "That was a very positive conversation," says Jansen. According to Jansen, developments in momentum can hit the coming days. Over the length of any contract he does not disclose. "But if it comes, it seems to me clear that Marco will not sign for a year."
Odd translations aside, this would seem to indicate that a deal is very, very close between all parties involved. That's good, because I really like van Ginkel. Get this one done as soon as possible Chelsea, and get the kid in here to work with Jose Mourinho asap.
