Coming to you prescheduled from about 12 hours ago, this is today's open thread. A few matches have been played at the U-20 World Cup earlier; watched probably by about as many as there were in the stadiums yesterday (read: 3). Some results were had.
And now, it's time for the final matchday of Group A of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. On the line: not much, other than not having to face Spain in the semifinals. The reward for not having to face Spain in the semifinals is having to face Spain in the final. BIG PRIZE!
That being said, I guess there's also (national) pride to play for, especially for Brazil with all the protests and violence and fresh new doubts over next year's World Cup. Italy meanwhile are coming off of the most entertaining match I've seen in a long time. Plus beards - I'm working on my Pirlo; I've got a long ways to go. So this one should be about as fun as a third match of a group stage between two already-qualified teams can be.
There's also Japan vs. Mexico. You may choose to watch that just to see Chepo de la Torre's final match in charge. Possibly.
Both matches start at the same time, at 3 P.M. EDT. Drama! I'll be at the vet's office. Or watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Or both.
Discuss.
