Not satisfied with playing a full season on what seems like zero days rest, Chelsea FC are going to extend that hectic schedule into post-season friendly time with two matches in three days during the North America tour. We'd already had a clash with Manchester City in St. Louis scheduled for May 23rd; now it's been confirmed that the Blues will take on the same opposition on the 25th at New Yankee Stadium.
For those unfamiliar with North American geography, here is a handy map:
That's a cool 900-something miles to travel on the 24th. I mean, fortunately these are friendly games and therefore approximately zero [funs] shall be given by the players, which will hopefully mean we don't see any fatigue-induced injuries, but this is still just a little bit ridiculous. And while Chelsea and City are trouping around the USA for pennies like some sort of self-loathing travelling circus, Manchester United are making a quarter of a billion dollars by selling the naming rights to their training ground. Point them, I think.
Anyway, here are the details of the match if you're interested in attending/helping Chelsea battle against the financial fair play demons:
Date/Time: Saturday, May 25th. 5:30 pm EDT.
Venue: Yankee Stadium, New York, USA.
Tickets for the match will go on sale as a bundle package (also includes an international friendly between Spain v Ireland on June 11) from Wednesday, April 10 at 10 am EDT at www.yankees.com/soccer.
