Chelsea boys in the Champions League / Wednesday Open Thread

If you squint hard enough, it's almost as if Chelsea itself were playing!

More Champions League quarterfinal action, now with added Chelsea interests! And not just in terms wishful thinking about just how great it were if [Player Name] received a lucrative windfall from the coffers of Roman Abramovich.

In reverse agist order, we have Lucas Piazon, 19 - look how happy he is! - and Malaga hosting the fun-'n'-gun of Germany's Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund have nothing left to fight for in the Bundesliga (i.e. it's Bayern's title, while Dortmund have a 10 point lead on 4th place Schalke), so they'll be looking for all the glory in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Malaga are in a dogfight with Real Sociedad and Valencia for that 4th and final Champions League spot in Spain.

Next up, Michael Essien, 30 - and his Daddy - host Galatasary who are enjoying a decent lead at the top of Turkey's Süper Lig. Madrid on the other hand are in a similar spot to Dortmund. With nothing left to fight for in the league, Jose Mourinho's charges will have to rely on the Champions League for any shot at glory this year.

Lastly, there's Didier Drogba, 35 of the aforementioned Galatasary. No, he's not technically a Chelsea player anymore. But that doesn't matter, for he's forever blue and forever the (Second) King of Stamford Bridge. Drogba has just one goal in eight total appearances since returning to Europe from China but he has linked up quite well with Burak Yilmaz who has eight goals in eight Champions League appearances this season.

Discuss.
