Three Chelsea players shortlisted for PFA awards

Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, and Romelu Lukaku have all been shortlisted for PFA awards

Dean Mouhtaropoulos

The 6 finalists for both the PFA player of the year and the PFA young player of the year were announced today, and there are a pair of Blues on both lists. Both Eden Hazard and Juan Mata were among the 6 finalists for the player of the year, while Hazard was also a finalist for young player of the year. Joining Hazard on the latter list is Romelu Lukaku, who has spent the season on loan to West Bromwich Albion.

The other finalists for player of the year include Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez, Michael Carrick, and Robin Van Persie. Carrick certainly raised some eyeballs and his inclusion has been criticized, but most United fans would probably be more surprised by the inclusion of Van Persie at this point.

The other nominees for young player of the year include Gareth Bale, Christian Benteke, Jack Wilshere, and Danny Welbeck. Both Lukaku and Hazard would probably have strong cases for this award if Gareth Bale was no longer considered "young". Congratulations to all 3 Chelsea players shortlisted, even if the PFA generally do a pretty awful job with this award. All 3 are certainly deserving of bieng shortlisted, and have been bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season.
