Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Chelsea hero

As a Chelsea fan, it's difficult not to like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. After today, I like him more:

He was always going to have it difficult at the start and the only thing that could help him was getting results and if you look at the results since he’s been there, they’ve not been good.

That’s the problem and that’s what you have to focus on. You can say, ‘They [the fans] never took to me, blah, blah, blah’, but he knew when he signed that it was going to be an issue. If you want to get them on your side, then you have to get results and at least be close to Man United or Man City and they have dropped too many points.

Hasselbaink is right. Frankly, Benitez knows this as well -- he deployed his rant to push attention toward the tension between him and the supporters and away from an examination of his tenure as Chelsea's manager to date. This is something that Benitez is a master of. His whole career has been an exercise in avoiding responsibility for failures while ensuring he gets full credit for any glories that fall into his path.

And let's be honest, he's very good at it. Keep on blaming fan protests for the club's poor form, rest of the world. Ignore the guy being paid millions to prepare and motivate the players. How can his influence compete with the negative effects stemming from sporadic displays of displeasure from the supporters? It can't. Fact.
