The draws for both the Champions League and Europa League are in the books, and we now know what Chelsea will face as they look to advance in Europe. Chelsea have been drawn against Russian side Rubin Kazan , which should set up the most interesting matchup we've had thus far in the tournament.
The first leg of this tie will be played at Stamford Bridge on April 4, with the second leg to be in played in Russia on April 11. The second leg will have an earlier kickoff time due to the time zone difference in Russia.
The full Europa League draw is as follows:
Chelsea vs Rubin Kazan
Tottenham Hotspur vs FC Basel
Fenerbache vs Lazio
Benfica vs Newcastle
This year will feature a semifinal draw which will be held on Friday, April 12, so we do not yet know who we might be facing if we survive that far in the competition. For now, I suppose we should be satisfied with the ridiculous number of fixtures still to be played.
The Champions League draw also set up some interesting ties, with the following games being drawn:
Málaga vs Dortmund
Madrid vs Galatasaray
PSG vs Barcelona
Bayern vs Juventus
That one worked out well for the neutrals, with some absolutely fantastic looking matchups and the likelihood of some equally appealing semis. While it hurts not to be involved at this stage, it will be fun to sit back and enjoy the show this season without worrying about who we'll be facing next.
