Petr Cech reportedly suffered a broken finger against Newcastle

The Chelsea keeper has suffered from injury after injury this season, and it looks as if the bug has bitten him yet again

Paul Thomas

Sky Sports is reporting that Petr Cech has suffered a broken finger in the ridiculous 3-2 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday. As of yet, there has been no confirmation from the club or player, and there is no word on whether or not Cech will miss any time with the injury.

Sky has confirmation from the Czech coaching staff confirming that Cech will not be flying to Turkey with the team for it's upcoming friendly midweek, but I hope they aren't using that as evidence that the keeper suffered injury this past weekend. Coach Mickal Bilek only confirmed that Cech would not be traveling with the team, but the club and country already had an agreement in place that he'd only dress for World Cup Qualifiers due to a shoulder injury that will require offseason surgery. He wouldn't have been playing in this upcoming friendly regardless, and I'd be shocked if he was planning to fly to Turkey just to watch.

If Cech indeed broke his finger this weekend, I'd be fairly surprised if he manages to play through it over the next several weeks without it affecting his performance. Cross your fingers and hope Sky is wrong, as nobody wants to see a second spell of Turnbull time.
