Chelsea have an interesting situation in goal, with Petr Cech still performing at a relatively high level, and Thibaut Courtois putting himself in the discussion of the best on the planet. That hasn't stopped some of the sillier outlets on the planet from linking the Blues to Diego Lopez, but none of this seems to be bothering Petr Cech.
Cech was interviewed by iSport.cz recently, and had the following to say about the links to other keepers:
"It is the decision of the club, the only thing I can do is to perform as best as possible and convince the coach that I still deserve the position in the goal."
"I have been here for almost ten years and there has been plenty of speculation on that. I can think of the names of at least 20 goalkeepers linked to the club in all that time. I'm used to it and not really worried because everyone is on the same starting line at the beginning of every summer."
"We will see in the summer. I don't feel any extra pressure. When the day comes when someone comes and is better than me, then it will happen. As I mentioned before, the speculation has been here all the time. I am just trying to do the same and won't change."
This is about as perfect an answer as you could write, and frankly it's about what I'd be expecting from a guy like Petr Cech. He's spent enough time around the game to know that he'll play if he deserves to, and that if he loses his starting role here, he'll certainly find a starting role elsewhere.
Here's hoping Thibaut Courtois is equally unfazed by the presence of Cech, and that the two will provide Jose Mourinho with a dilemma beginning this summer.
