Jose Mourinho's press conference at Stamford Bridge ended with something of a bang. While we expected updates on the Samuel Eto'o injury and a response to the various transfer rumours floating around, the manager's comments on on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku came as a bit of a surprise, especially considering how irritated Mourinho seemed. Responding to a journalist quizzing him on the forward's recent comments regarding the lack of contact between player and manager, Mourinho said:
Romelu likes to speak. He's a young boy who likes to speak. But the only thing he didn't say is why he went to Everton on loan.
That's the only thing he never says. And my last contact with him was to tell him exactly that. Why do you never say why you are not here? So it's something he should (talk about) because he likes to speak. It's something he should say, the reason why he's not with Chelsea and is in Everton.
When asked what that reason was, Mourinho refused to comment for 'ethical reasons'. It was a bizarre response, and it's indicative of something very odd going on behind the scenes. This isn't a deterioration in the relationship or anything, because the reason that Lukaku's gone on loan hasn't changed since September, but it does mean that we haven't been told the whole story yet.
I don't know about you, but I'd like to find out just what went on there. Being left in the dark is frustrating.
