It's been a good day for both Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel, both of whom have won national awards for their play with Nigeria. Moses, currently on loan at Liverpool after a season at Stamford Bridge, was named Nigerian Footballer of the Year, while Mikel had to console himself with Sports Man of the Year. I don't know why the football-playing Sports Man of the Year isn't winning Footballer of the Year by default, but hey, I get confused easily I guess.
The Super Eagles have had a superb 2013, winning the Africa Cup of Nations (thanks in large part to excellent displays from Chelsea boys Mikel, Moses and Kenneth Omeruo) and qualifying for the 2014 World Cup by beating by beating Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate earlier in November. It's great to see the Blues' traditional presence in Africa continuing -- hopefully next time it'll be Omeruo's turn to pick up an individual award.
