Schalke vs. Chelsea, Champions League: Lineups & Game Thread

Charlie Crowhurst

Jose Mourinho returns to the city and the stadium where he won the Champions League with Porto.  That one was a comprehensive 3-0 dismissal of Monaco; we can only hope tonight we see a repeat of that for Chelsea.

Earlier today, Chelsea U19 continued their European campaign as well, winning 2-0 thanks to not televised goals from Lewis Baker (penalty) and Nathan Aké (off of a Baker corner).  That's three wins from three, with three clean sheets and ten goals scored for Dermot Drummy's "men."  Impressive.

Schalke 04 starting lineup (4-2-3-1):
Timo Hildebrand | Dennis Aogo, Joel Matip, Benedikt Höwedes, Atsuto Uchida | Roman Neustädter, Jermaine Jones | Julian Draxler, Max Meyer, Christian Clemens | Kevin-Prince Boateng

Substitutes from: Ralf Fährmann, Tim Hoogland, Felipe Santana, Sead Kolasinac, Leon Goretzka, Christian Fuchs, Ádám Szalai

Chelsea starting lineup (4-2-3-1):
Petr Cech | Cesar Azpilicueta, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic | Frank Lampard, Ramires | Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle | Fernando Torres

Substitutes from: Mark Schwarzer, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, John Obi Mikel, Willian, Juan Mata, Samuel Eto'o

So Mourinho pulls another surprise and drafts Azpilicueta in at left back, Bosingwa-style.  David Luiz gets a time out.  Schürrle does get the start, while Torres and Oscar rotate back into the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, Schalke go without a recognized striker.  Wonderkid Draxler starts, as usual, on the left wing.  Better buckle down, Branislav!
