Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea have reached an agreement on their second signing of the January window, coming to terms with Metalist Kharkiv for Brazilian born Taison. There is no confirmation from either club at this point, but we do know that Chelsea had Taison into Stamford Bridge for a visit before the holiday.
If true, it's a bit of a puzzling signing by the Blues. Taison is a solid enough player, but he doesn't really fill a hole in our current squad. He's another winger/midfielder that offers more going forward than he does in defense, and Chelsea certainly have plenty of that type of player on their books already.
That said, the rumored fee of under 10 million pounds would seem pretty reasonable for a solid player, especially when considering he'd be on a very minimal wage. While I struggle to see the reasoning for this rumored move, without considering the other players on the roster it would likely be a good one.
The other issue with Taison would be the acquisition of a work permit. He will not automatically qualify, so there is always a chance that he'd fail to be granted one. I doubt that's a major issue though, as he's certainly a good enough player that he should be granted one.
