Fernando Torres needs rest, says Rafa

Clive Rose

I'm not in a mood to be charitable after the absolute pooshow at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, so if Rafa Benitez is going to make some comments attempting to explain the loss to Queens Park Rangers I'm going to respond by being surly and grumpy. Here goes!

Fernando is one of the players who needs to rest. Two or three players have been playing too many games in the last weeks and months. Managing that was going well but against QPR it didn't work. Some of the players couldn't get to the level we were expecting.

Without talking about names, if you have another striker you can play with two strikers if you need to. Or if you want to rest a striker then you can do that and at the moment we are a bit short.

Oh really? Rest is what Fernando Torres needs? That's great. He should be fine for the match at Southampton then on account of taking the day off yesterday. And Sunday too, come to think of it. Or was he just too tired to run any direction but right at the [funning] corner flag whenever Oscar got the ball?

And don't even get me started with 'if you have another striker you can play with two strikers if you need to'. I want to set everyone on fire.

PS: Signing Demba Ba and having him play a cup match immediately before training, thus saving a more important game for Torres to start in, does not seem like a wise use of resources. Just saying. Just saying some swear words.
