Did you want to be cheered up after that embarrassment of a loss against Queens Park Rangers, Chelsea fans? Well too bad. BRING ME MORE TERRIBLE NEWS, RAFA BENITEZ! BRING IT TO ME NOW!
Benitez says Petr Cech out for 2-3 weeks but still no time frame for John Terry's return
— Rob Harris (@RobHarris) January 2, 2013
Cech sustained that groin injury just before halftime during the 2-1 win at Goodison Park and was immediately withdrawn in what initially looked to be a precautionary measure. Turns out it wasn't, and our number one will be out of action for a little while.
The upcoming fortnight features an FA Cup tie away to Southampton, a match against Stoke City (who are unbeaten at home) at the Britannia, and the first leg of the League Cup semifinal against Swansea City. Add another week to that and suddenly we're talking about Cech missing the home game against Arsenal as well as the second leg of the Swansea semifinal.
That's obviously rather bad news. Ross Turnbull is serviceable as a backup goalkeeper and I'm not going to blame him for Shaun Wright-Phillips' strike today, but Cech's been remarkably good this year and we'll miss him a great deal over the next couple of weeks. No, this isn't reason to spend money on a new goalkeeper. It's just inconvenient and unpleasant. Just like the rest of today.
