Chelsea FC now know who will await in the next round as they look to win their fourth FA Cup in five years. Brentford have defeated Southend United by a 2-1 score this afternoon to earn themselves a game with the defending champs.
Brentford are located in West London, so it will set up an interesting derby that we don't see very often. There are four West London clubs in league football, with Brentford being the only one not currently in the Premier League.
The match will be held at Brentwood's Griffin Park, conveniently located for many Chelsea fans. It will be played on January 27, 2013 at noon London time, so it will be an early morning for those of us watching from the United States*.
*That assumes, of course, that these games are actually televised
Brentford and Chelsea have only met eleven times in the clubs' histories, with the last coming all the way back in the 1950 FA Cup. That was the only time the two teams ever met in the cups, and Chelsea won that game by a 1-0 score. Chelsea also hold a slight edge when the two sides have met in league play, winning five, losing four, and drawing only one. Chelsea have the best overall record of the four in West London derbies, winning 65, drawing 41, and losing just 27.
