The Nigerian Football Federation have named their 23-man squad that will be representing them in the Africa Cup of Nations, and as expected, both John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses made the cut. Chelsea's on-loan defender Kenneth Omeruo was a bit of a wild card, but he also made his way onto the final squad for the Super Eagles.
The full Nigerian squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel); Austin Ejide (Hapoel Be’er Sheba, Israel); Chigozie Agbim (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria)
Defenders: Elderson Echiejile (FC Braga, Portugal); Juwon Oshaniwa (Ashdod FC, Israel); Joseph Yobo (Fenerbahce, Turkey); Efe Ambrose (Celtic FC, Scotland); Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves, Nigeria); Kenneth Omeruo (ADO Den Haag, Netherlands); Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars, Nigeria)
Midfielders: John Obi Mikel (Chelsea FC, England); Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis, Spain); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); Obiora Nwankwo (Calcio Padova, Italy); Fegor Ogude (Valerenga FC, Norway); Reuben Gabriel (Kano Pillars, Nigeria)
Forwards: Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Emmanuel Emenike (Spartak Moscow, Russia); Brown Ideye (Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine); Victor Moses (Chelsea FC, England); Ikechukwu Uche (Villarreal FC, Spain); Ejike Uzoenyi (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria); Sunday Mba (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria)
The Ivory Coast also has a few notable names for Chelsea fans, as former Blues Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou were named to their 23-man squad. Wilfried Bony was also named to the squad, he's been linked to Chelsea quite a bit in the past.
Not named in an ACoN squad was Bertrand Traore, the teenager who has been training with Chelsea and playing in friendlies for several seasons without ever officially joining the Chelsea academy. Nigeria begin play January 21 when they face the Traore-less Burkina Faso side. They also share a group with Zambia and Ethiopia.
