Report: Atletico Madrid's Miguel Angel Gil is in London discussing Falcao

It's Guillem Balague, but it's still probably worth a mention

Angel Martinez

Fernando Torres was awful yesterday, and Chelsea still need help in attack. It's pretty clear that they will need something more than just Demba Ba long term, and we've long been linked with Radamel Falcao.

Guillem Balague had an interesting little tidbit about an hour ago, claiming that Atletico Madrid's Miguel Angel Gil was in London, discussing a summer move for Radamel Falcao. Here is the relevant quote, dropped in at the end of a few comments about Alvaro Negredo:

"Do you know who is also in London? Miguel Angel Gil, the big boss at Atletico de Madrid talking to clubs about Falcao for next summer."

That would be promising news for Falcao fans a few years ago, as Balague used to have a fantastic reputation for being on top of all things La Liga. Unfortunately for fans that would love to see Falcao at Stamford Bridge, Balague's information has been increasingly unreliable over the past several seasons, enough so that I rarely ever use him as a source anymore.

I'm obviously skeptical of this particular rumor, but knowing that we've had interest in the past and knowing that Atletico need money, it would seem plausible enough to at least point out for discussion. If Gil is indeed in London talking about a summer deal for Falcao as Balague suggests, you can probably feel safe that he's not talking to Arsenal or Spurs. As long as Falcao remains on the Atletico side of Madrid, his name will continue to be connected to Chelsea.
