One of the themes we've ended up hitting on rather too frequently this summer is that some competitions matter more than others. This is an unfortunate fact of life, but one Chelsea fans have (or should have) accepted long ago -- the club's been running out youth lineups in the League Cup ever since they started regularly winning more glamourous titles, and nobody bats an eyelid when we get knocked out by clubs that take the competition more seriously than we do.

Having been slaughtered in the UEFA Super Cup by Atletico Madrid and a rampant Radamel Falcao, some of the more srident Blues supporters would have been hoping that the club would put up for of a fight in the Club World Cup, which is coming up in December. Happily, it sounds like Chelsea are going to pretty much ignore it. At least according to Oscar:

Chelsea has many major championships this season, so we are not very focused on the Club World Cup. Corinthians have won the Libertadores for the first time and are much more anxious about the competition.

Chelsea should be focused on the Premier League and the Champions League. Those are the trophies that are the difference between a strong season and a poor one. The Super Cup and the Club World Cup are trophies that I'm sure we'd quite happily ignore if not for the amount of money being thrown our way to turn up. Yes, it'd be great if the club was good enough and had the depth to take everything seriously, but they don't and so shouldn't. We're playing too many fixtures this year, and something has to give. It's only natural that it'd be these exhibitions.
