Chelsea vs. Wolves: Initial reactions after a 6-0 blowout

Chelsea cruised to victory in their first Capital One Cup game of the 2012/13 season, knocking out the Championship side with a 6-0 victory.

At some point during the second half I manged to lose count of the score as Chelsea breezed past Wolverhampton. They led by three at the half, and just kept on scoring after the break. Here's are some thoughts from the match that we just watched listened to:

  • It's funny that I can find coverage of Ulises Davila at Sabadell with regularity, but can't find a cup game involving the Champions of Europe anywhere.
  • This game was essentially over ten minutes into the tie when Gary Cahill and Ryan Bertrand had both found the back of the net. We had first Chelsea goals from Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Victor Moses as well as first assists for Lucas Piazon and Oscar. Congratulations!
  • It will be hard to really form an opinion until Chelsea TV airs the game later tonight, but Wolves sound like a team that were easily relegated last spring and then lost their best players over the summer.
  • Even without seeing the game, I could easily tell every single time the Stephen Hunt touched the ball. BOO!
  • It sounds as if Victor Moses may have taken a dive to earn Chelsea's 2nd half penalty, it's a bit of a shame that we couldn't exchange that for one the pair we should have had against Juventus or QPR. Oriol Romeu took advantage with a heck of a penalty though. Maybe he's earned himself the right to take one in this season's Champions League final. Happy belated 21st birthday Oriol.
  • Chelsea TV replayed the sound-byte of Gary Neville's call (you know the one) at halftime, and it's just as goosebump inspiring without the video. Since Torres scored again today, here's some (admittedly low quality) video of that event to end this post with anyway. Hooray Chelsea!
