We're approaching the end of the transfer window and with it we are seeing more clubs starting to secure their targets. Today we have news of an especially exciting move, as Middlesbrough have signed young Chelsea starlet Josh McEachran on a season long loan.
McEachran's career may have hit a brick wall last season but he remains one of the emerging talents in English football as a classy creative midfielder. He announced his arrival on the scene with a fantastic performance in the Champions League against MŠK Zilina when he was just 17, but was never able to properly nail down a place in the Chelsea starting XI (and understandbly so). While his loan to Swansea last season had many good intentions, it just didn't work out as Glyfi Sigurrdson took the Premier League by storm.
There are going to presumably be many questioning why the club didn't choose a Premier League destination for their starlet, but the reality is the most important thing for McEachran's career right now is games, and that's exactly what he's going to get at the Riverside. Away from the pressure of England's top flight, it could be the exact move McEachran needs to ignite his career. Under Tony Mowbray last season Middlesbrough became well known for their commitment to a short passing game, and while tomorrow night's game against Derby may have come a little too early, there's certainly a good reason to be following life at Boro this season.
