Now that the Community Shield is over it's time for friendlies of the international kind rather than of the club variety. Club friendlies sound like a Subway version of a Happy Meal. I don't know why I typed that. Anyway, one player who won't be getting his friendly on (presumably because he's arrogant and selfish) is Daniel Sturridge, who's apparently pulled out of England's match against Italy with a toe injury.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as this doesn't impact the beginning of the season, a minor injury is good news for Sturridge. He didn't look to be having trouble moving during the 3-2 loss against Manchester City, where he was reasonably impressive as a substitute, so I'm not expecting this to be anything serious. If only the rest of our boys could pick up 'toe injuries' until Wednesday and just stay home and get ready for Wigan Athletic away. No matter whether or not we care about preseason, I think everyone will agree that we want Chelsea looking as sharp and coherent as possible next Sunday, and the friendlies this week are going to get in the way of that.
