Gordon's loan to Birmingham confirmed by Chelsea

Stephen, via Sky Sports, reported almost a month ago that Chelsea youth player Ben Gordon was headed to Birmingham City on a six-month loan deal. Today, we received official confirmation from the Chels on the next move for their 21-year-old left-back

Ben Gordon has today joined Championship side Birmingham City on loan until January 7.

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty succinct.

The Birmingham Mail added some details to the mix, reporting that City have an option to extend the loan should they see fit, though Chelsea mention nothing of this in the brief posting on the club website. Birmingham coach Lee Clark says he envisions Gordon pushing starter David Murphy for first-team minutes.

Ben is someone I have been monitoring over the course of the summer. ... He's a modern day full-back who likes to get forward with pace.

This will be Gordon's sixth loan in two years, and clearly his most significant. A move to a top-tier Championship side should prove to be a great situation/opportunity for the defender, given he continues on his current trajectory. As you may recall, Gordon spent a fruitful second half of last season in Scotland with Kilmarnock.

Speaking of young'ns, who's looking forward to Stephen's trademark loan roundups? I know I am.

PS - First post, trick.
