Well this is out of the blue. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have just signed 20-year-old Brazilian wonderchild -- and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target -- Oscar from Internacional. The price? £25M, apparently.
We'd been tenuously linked to Oscar for the last couple of days, but I wasn't convinced that there was anything in the supposed interest, because he favours the same sort of position as Eden Hazard and Juan Mata, both of whom are already on our team. It's one of the last places we needed an upgrade, and I'm therefore still slightly skeptical that this is done even if the Mail is reporting it as signed and sealed.
That said, Oscar's a very neat player. He's doing some very impressive things in the Brasileirao this season, and he's recently been featuring for the national team as well (if you were on Hulk-watch during friendlies, you'll have seen him). He's capable of playing across the third line, meaning that we could feasibly be using him on the right if we wanted to. I think £25M is probably too much for him, considering that we don't really need another Oscar-like player around, but he's a really fun prospect and I'd be thrilled to welcome him to Stamford Bridge if the Mail's report is accurate.
The best part of this is that Andre Villas-Boas and Tottenham Hotspur were on the verge of signing him before our supposed swoop. Hee hee hee. We should buy everyone they want until Danie Levy says sorry for not selling us Luka Modric.
