What's happening in Malaga is only on the fringes of importance to Chelsea FC. As a La Liga club, we're fairly unlikely to ever play them (they are in a Champions League playoff, so there is that possibility). If we do see them this season, they are likely to be a very heavy underdog. We've been linked to one of their players this summer though (Salomon Rondon), so news of financial difficulties at the club would certainly be a bit noteworthy.
Are you surprised by that last sentence? Malaga have recently been bought by the uber-rich, so it would be a bit of a surprise to hear of multiple financial issues at the club. Those financial issues came out today though, as Malaga have been reported for failure to pay their players wages and for failure to make a payment to Villareal. I was absolutely shocked when i read this, as Malaga should have absolutely no issues with their finances with owners as rich as they have.
This makes the Rondon rumor a bit more interesting than it was earlier. He seems a fairly suitable target for a backup striker, but previously it seemed to defy logic that Malaga would have any need to sell. The reports today would lead me to believe that ownership may not care all that much about the club, however, so there may in fact be an opening to grab the talented young striker if we truly want him. Things just keep getting more interesting, don't they?
