Two blues, two former blues named to Great Britain squad for the London 2012 Olympics

There has been speculation for weeks surrounding what Chelsea players would be included on Stuart Pearce's 18 man squad for the Olympic games. Three Chelsea players were seemingly in contention for spots on the squad, with 2 of them being about as close to locks as there could be. The squad was announced today, and 2 of the 3 were indeed selected. Congratulations to Daniel Sturridge and Ryan Bertrand, who will both be representing the host nation at this summer's Olympic games. Daniel Sturridge will also be getting a chance to showcase his abilities as a center forward.

Unfortunately this means Josh McEachran was not included in the squad. Had Josh played more this season, there would be every reason to think he could have taken the place of several of the guys eventually included. One of those mild surprises is former blue Jack Cork (now at Southampton), who will be joined by former blue Scott Sinclair on the squad.

Congratulations go out to all selected, and some should be in order for the much maligned Chelsea academy as well. For all the flack Chelsea get due to their inability to produce first teamers, the 15 places in the squad for players 23 or under have a very blue look to them. Best of luck at the Olympic games, hopefully we'll have more Chelsea news of this sort shortly.
