As expected, the first game of the preseason tour was a bit on the sloppy side. That said, there's a few thing I took from it.

  • Romelu Lukaku is a freakish athlete. He's going to be a nightmare to mark as he gains confidence.
  • Eden Hazard and Marko Marin will really help transition defense to attack. They do an excellent job in positioning themselves to receive the ball.
  • Jamal Blackman is already better than Hilario.
  • Paulo Ferriera is done. I love the guy, but he just doesn't offer anything to the squad anymore that we can't get from the youth.

It's hard to read too much into 1 preseason game, but this one definitely showed positive signs of good things to come. Chelsea looked dangerous in the counter, and we clearly have different types of players to mark than we have in most previous years. Even Fernando Torres might find the back of the net if he has chances on the counter like we saw tonight. It was a good first showing, let's hope for more positive signs on Sunday.
