Carlos Meinberg Neto, the agent for Oscar, had some quotes today that would seemingly pour some cold water on the Oscar to Chelsea rumors. According to Sky Sports he was quoted with the following:

The first proposal of Chelsea was refused by Internacional. And I believe that it is difficult for Chelsea to make a counter-offer for the player. Right now, we are no longer in talks with Chelsea.

Look, we know that Chelsea had an offer turned down. We also know that we're very close in terms of money to what Internacional were asking. Frankly, I don't understand Neto's assertion that it will be difficult to re-enter negotiations for the player, as Internacional pretty much told us the exact amount that it would take to get the deal done.

This sounds to me like an agent who is looking to generate more interest in their player by linking him to a top club and leaving the door open to a move, and from his own personal stanpoint that probably makes some sense. The Brazilian Olympic delegation (of which Oscar is a part) leaves for London tomorrow, so agreeing personal terms with the player would seemingly be discussions that would wait until after the Olympic games. Other than that though, I really can't see any reason why Chelsea would struggle to get a deal done if they feel that Internacional's valuation of the player is fair. We will see I guess, and due to the Olympics we'll probably see this one drag out a bit. Oh well, at least we have games to watch again.
