The big Belgian had an excellent season on loan for the Europa League champions, quickly establishing himself as the first choice goalkeeper for the Spanish side. Today we have word from Atletico Madrid that Courtois will remain in the Spanish capital for a second season, as the club has reached an agreement with Chelsea to see the young keeper at the club for a second season.
This seems like great business for all parties involved. Petr Cech was more than adequate last season for Chelsea, and he'll remain in London as the unquestioned first choice keeper this coming season. COurtois will still see regular action both in La Liga and the Europa League, although he'll have to sit out the Super Cup against his parent club Chelsea at the start of the season. This likely means that we won't be seeing on the US tour this summer, as he'll likely rejoin Atletico for the start of their preseason. All in all, this is excellent news for Chelsea fans as Thibaut will still see regular action at a solid club for a second season in a row.
