David Luiz hasn't been a regular in the Brazill national team as they prepare for this summer's Olympic games, but the Brazilian goalkeeper for that tournament would have us believe that he'll still be returning to his home in London for the games regardless. Brazil has high expectations this summer, and in an interview yesterday, young keeper Jefferson had the following to say:
Thiago Silva and David Luiz are guaranteed to go
That's certainly both interesting and highly logical. Brazil are overflowing with attacking talent, but the center of their defense is not an area in which they are overflowing with young talent. Luiz and Silva would form easily the best central pairing in the tournament, in doing so taking up 2 of Brazil's 3 slots for players who do not qualify as U23.
Brazil have also been running both Real Madrid's Marcelo and Porto's Hulk out in these friendlies on a regular basis, but if Jefferson is correct it would mean 1 of the 2 of those players will be left off the squad. Frankly, Brazil would probably be better served leaving Hulk at home, as they are bursting with young attacking talent. That said, Marcelo just had himself another Marcelo moment, getting sent off against Argentina. With that in mind, I'd guess that he'll be the odd man out. Either way, this tournament will be a fun one to watch this summer and will now seemingly feature at least 2 Chelsea first team players (Daniel Sturridge).
