No Chelsea Contact, Says Andre Schurrle

Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle has claimed that he'd consider a move to Stamford Bridge - but he's also admitted that despite the rumour mill churning out stories of late, there's been no contact from Chelsea regarding such a deal:

I and my agent have not had any contact [from Chelsea] so we will just have to wait. We will see how interesting it is when it becomes concrete.

Naturally, Sky are headlining that quote with 'Schurrle Hints at Blues Interest', which makes me want to Didier Zakora whichever subeditor approved that pretty hard. At any rate, it sounds like the Schurrle rumours are pretty overblown. I think that's probably a good thing - while I like him and he's very young, Schurrle probably isn't the sort of player who can massively upgrade our left flank ahead of Salomon Kalou.

We've seen a couple of games worth of Schurrle with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League (many more, if you follow the Bundesliga) and while he's obviously a neat talent I'd much rather see Chelsea pursue a standout player like Eden Hazard or Lucas Moura there this summer. Schurrle would be a great depth signing, but we've already got Marko Marin for exactly that purpose, and I don't really understand why we would be throwing £15M in Leverkusen's direction here.

I really doubt this happens.
