Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness seems to think his club have some sort of moral responsibility to the rest of the earth to win the Champions League final on Saturday as his club face off against Chelsea FC. When being interviewed in advance of the final, Hoeness had the opportunity to talk up Bayern and explain to all of us why they deserve to win the game. Instead, he decided to hit out at Roman Abramovich and other owners who have invested their own fortunes in building fantastic football clubs. According to Hoeness:
I get angry every week when I go to buy petrol. The oil mafia takes money out of my pocket to invest it in footballers. For me this stinks to high heaven and I include Mr Abramovich in all this.
Listen Uli, I understand that you want to see your club win the Champions League, but if you really have an issue with the money you're paying at the pump being used to fuel clubs like Chelsea (pun intended) there is actually something you can do about it. It works for people worldwide that want to avoid putting more money into the pockets of those making billions on oil. Shut your mouth and buy a [fun]ing bicycle. You'll feel better for it and you won't be paying the "oil mafia". Problem solved. Now can we get back to the actual game?
