Chelsea took the lead and then conceded late to Fulham to drop two vital points at Craven Cottage, a result that sees the Blues stay in sixth(!), two points behind both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. It was a poor performance after a broadly encouraging start, and there's no way around it now - we're very, very unlikely to be playing Champions League football next year.
The Blues took the lead at the end of the first half via a Frank Lampard penalty, earned when Danny Murphy slid in two-footed on Salomon Kalou, but gave it up during what was basically the only spell of Fulham pressure, when a bizarrely unmarked Clint Dempsey headed in off Gary Cahill's back for the equaliser. There was no time for a Wiganesque great escape, and towards the end of the match the club looked completely short of ideas. They didn't deserve to win, and didn't. They don't deserve to finish in the top four, and probably won't.
